Just for today I will give thanks for my many
blessings.
Just for today I will not worry.
Just for today I will not be angry.
Just for today I will do my work honestly.
Just for today I will be kind to my neighboor and every living
thing.
reiki background
Reiki, (pronounced "ray-key"), is an ancient art
of energy healing which was reintroduced to Japan by Mikao
Usui in the mid-1800's. Usui searched and studied for approximately
10 years trying to find the methods of healing used by Jesus.
His journey took him to studying with Bhuddist monks, Christians
in America and others before returning to a Bhuddist monastery.
After extensive studying in Sanskrit, he is said to have
found answers and was required to "go through a test"
of a 3 week meditation, fasting and prayer on Mt. Koriyama
in Japan.
On the final morning of his quest, Usui had revelations and
his third eye opened. He saw the Reiki symbols and their teachings.
To summarize his later journey, Usui met several individuals
after his quest where he was able to utilize his new revelations
and witness the healing taking effect. He named the healing
energy Reiki which means Universal Life Force Energy. He then
passed on his teachings to approximately 18 new Reiki Masters
before his death in 1930, one of whom was Hawayo Takata.
Takata worked for a Reiki clinic until it was destroyed in
World War II. She then traveled the world and taught Reiki
to hundreds before she died in 1980.
What is reiki?
Reiki is commonly referred to as a "laying on of hands"
style of healing. As everything is made up of energy, it is
believed that the energy is the life force itself. The Reiki
energy passes through the hands of the practitioner and into
the individual receiving the healing. Reiki speeds up the
healing process; You cannot force it to do harm and cannot
do too much or too little. The Reiki energy knows what is
needed and will heal without the need for perfect knowledge
of an issue or precise diagnosis if either is not available
or understood.
Reiki heals on all levels simultaneously: The physical, mental/emotional
and spiritual levels. It can be used for anything which needs
healing... Physical ailments, emotional traumas, spiritual
blocks, clearing negative energy, pets, and many, many others.
As Reiki is a "laying on of hands" form of healing,
the client receiving the healing is not required to be undressed.
Reiki can be performed through clothing and even be done through
a distance healing technique. The practitioner lightly rests
their hands in different positions on the body and allows
the energy to flow through them. Each person experiences this
energy differently:
Some experience heat or tingling from the hands, some go through
a range of emotions, and some feel a deep sense of peace and
comfort wash over them. I have even had clients feel so relaxed
during a Reiki session, they fall asleep and are surprised
when the session is already over!
Reiki can be done on it's own, and is also frequently combined
with various modalities of bodywork including massage
therapy.
I have been a certified Level II Reiki practitioner since
February 1998 where I studied and completed levels I and II
with my Aunt, and can provide full Reiki sessions separately
as well as using Reiki as large part of my massage/bodywork,
beginning and ending the session with this healing energy.
